Life Lessons Steve Jobs Has Taught Me

Steve Jobs was a legendary man. I truly respect him as an individual for his visionary and creativity. There is something that everyone can take away from this man’s life. Doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, studying or working. Why because at the end of day, Steve was born a regular person just like any of us. He was not given anything more or less in terms of his life.

Here I have 3 life lessons that I’ve learnt from his life.

1) “Find Something You Love”

That was what Steve Jobs exactly said, during his address at Stanford Commencement 2005. Love what you do because doing what you love supports you to be who you want to be. Passion works the same way in our lives. Without passion towards our interest, it is impossible to reach your highest potential because after all we won’t be giving our 100% to it.

Take Stephen Wozniak and Steve Jobs for example. Both of them had the same interest in electronics and gadgetry and they pursued their interest. Ultimately, Apple I was created in 1976.

2) Perseverance Will Pay Off

Failure is not the end but the beginning of a success. Do you know that Steve Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985? Can you imagine the humiliation of being a public failure? But Jobs was no quitter. He even felt that it was “the best thing that ever happened to me.” In the next five years, he created Pixar. Pixar then went on to create the first computer animated movie, Toy Story. Apple later bought Pixar and he was placed back into Apple. Jobs said in regard to the situation, “Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick, don’t lose faith.”

Everyone will experience difficult moments in life.

We can lose a starting position in a job, or even a game but Jobs taught us that no failure is permanent. He persevered and kept working hard through the struggles and eventually, success followed him.

3) Listen to your inner voice

"Don’ let the noise of other’s opinion drown out your inner voice."

How many of you often depend on others to make decisions in life? And if you did, had you wished you listened to yourself instead? Well it’s true; most of us don’t hear the voice inside our heads and end up regretting at the end of the day because we’re too caught up with what the society thinks. Life is too short for regrets. Learn how to dream and achieve. If you fail, learn to pick yourself up to achieve once again.

Jobs once said that

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’ let the noise of other’s opinion drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. ”

The greatest challenge for most of us is to cut through all the opinions and advice and follow our own vision, creative ideas and intuition. Following your own inner voice, your heart will eventually keep you on your path.

That concludes the life lessons that I've learned from the Steve Job's life. What about you? What life lessons did you take away? Leave a comment below to share them with me.

  1. I love how you'd concluded the genius's life in a fashion so short and sweet. I'm certainly taking away these valuable points with me.

For me, I had learnt so much in the episode of Jobs-Sculley clash in 1985, during which Jobs was forced to leave Apple. But we all know that Steve Jobs didn't end just there.

Like what you've mentioned, he's gone on with more ventures. He's certainly inspiring.

  3. Hi Nabillah :)

I think that this angle of yours is a rather refreshing one as you have reflected on the things you have learnt from him. It goes to show how much of an impact he has on you. I too believe that in order for success to come, one must be patient and sometimes even unsuccessful; gaining more knowledge and experience each time you fail.

    R.I.P Steve Jobs

  5. Steve Jobs has taught me that even though there are many things in life we can't control, however, there is much that is in our power. We can make a difference in creating our future by inventing it day by day.
